The Bunker of Peace

During the Second World War, the German army built a great number of bunkers in the hinterland and along the Sicilian coasts in order to face the enemy invasion from the Mediterranean Sea.

The artistic project “The Bunkers of Peace” aims at enhancing these architectonic war symbols to promote sensitivity and disapproval towards wars tormenting the peoples.

Peace, indefeasible value to help peoples and cultures to live together, is a source of inspiration of this environmental intervention. The selection of two Bunkers for each Sicilian province, their next transformation through pictorial interventions assigned to a “troop of artists” from different nationalities, the introduction of the Bunkers in the touristic-cultural routes of Sicily, are the goals the projects wishes to achieve.
